Teacher BackendCollab & Weekly Prep

Block Types

Instructional Session

Live, teacher-led lesson covering the week's curriculum scope. Sessions are teacher-paced — the teacher sets the content for the week, not the student. Teachers may walk through actual lesson material in real time, allowing students to complete portions of the assignment during the session. Credit for meaningful participation is awarded at the teacher's discretion.

Workshop

Structured guided practice — not a re-lecture and not office hours. Each Wednesday and Thursday workshop should include active engagement: Kahoot or Gimkit review, group project work, a guided lab, peer discussion, or similar. Teachers should have two or three ready formats to choose from each week based on what students need most. Quiz and test prep may also happen here.

Study Hall / Drop-In

Open support for any student who needs help. Attendance is voluntary. When attendance is light, teachers do not wait — they pivot immediately to outreach, progress monitoring, grading, family communication, or targeted 1:1 intervention. No teacher should be idling in an empty Zoom room.

Teacher Backend

Protected time from 12:30–3:30 pm daily for the invisible work that makes the program run: reviewing student progress, grading, writing family communications, planning intervention, and targeted outreach to students who are falling behind. No live sessions are scheduled in this window.

Enrichment / Friday

Friday is a distinct enrichment day featuring Bible, monthly Bible study or chapel, the Assigned Hub session, and an optional progress review block. Friday is optional for students and requires advance registration. Core instructional sessions are never moved to Friday.

Independent Work

Students complete coursework on their own within the week's curriculum window. More than half of each morning block is independent time by design — Prep is not a fully synchronous program. Live sessions are built to be worth attending, not to be the only path through the material.

Scheduling Principles

Session length is 45 minutes. Allow five minutes at the start and end for transitions. All sessions are recorded and made available to enrolled Prep students, so families in different time zones or with scheduling conflicts are not locked out of the content.

Curriculum pacing is teacher-led, not student-led. Teachers follow a weekly scope and sequence per subject and grade level. All live sessions are built around where the class should be that week. Students who enroll mid-year begin at the current week's point; students who are ahead may still attend, as sessions include a review component; students who are behind can complete past work afterward with remediation support during study hall.

Attendance is not mandatory, but sessions are designed to be worth attending. Teachers reward meaningful participation with credit at their discretion — a student who attends, engages, and demonstrates understanding may receive up to full credit for the lesson covered in lieu of completing it independently. Partial credit is available for lighter participation. The goal is sessions students want to join, not sessions they feel guilty skipping.

Workshops are structured, not unstructured. The Wednesday and Thursday workshop blocks are active, not passive. Teachers should not use this time for re-lecturing or answering individual questions in an unorganized queue. Prepare a format in advance and run it.

The teacher backend block is protected. The 12:30–3:30 pm window each day is not overflow time for missed live sessions. It is dedicated to monitoring, grading, outreach, and intervention. This is the structural answer to the problem of poor attendance wasting teacher preparation — when sessions are light, the backend block makes teacher time fully recoverable.
